Employer Sponsored Temporary Visa
The application process to bring in temporary overseas workers is quiet detailed, and MAASSA has sound experience and expertise in handling all matters in this regard. There are 3 steps in this process:
Step 1 Sponsorship
The business has to first apply for approval as a business sponsor. These include details to prove:
- The business is of good standing.
- How Australia would benefit from the business employing overseas personnel.
- Commitment of the business to train Australian residents or the introduction of new technology or business skills.
The Employers must also meet a number of undertakings in relation to sponsored persons and their families.
Step 2 Nomination
Employers need to nominate each of the positions they wish to fill with a temporary resident. These nominations must meet the minimum skills threshold as defined for the occupation, and the nominated positions must also be remunerated at a minimum salary level, specified in the Gazette Notice.
Employers from regional or low population growth area of Australia may seek exemption from the minimum skill or minimum salary level requirements.
Step 3 Visa application
The person identified to fill the nominated vacancy can then apply for a Business Long Stay (Subclass 457) visa for himself and his family unit. The applicant will have to demonstrate that they have the skills that match the nominated vacancy, and must have an offer of employment stating the terms of employment and salary indicated in the nomination application.
