Sponsored Family Visitors
This visa is for people who want to travel to Australia to visit a close relative (parent, spouse, child, brother or sister).
This visa is most appropriate for relatives who may not be able to prove satisfactorily to DIAC that their intention is genuinely just to visit.
The requirements for this visa are the same as for Tourist visa (read above); with the additional requirement that the applicant be sponsored and in some cases that a security bond be lodged.
Who can be a sponsor?
- Be a settled Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Any relative of the visitor (does not necessarily have to be the close relative who is being visited)
Security bond
DIAC may ask for a security bond (an amount of money) to be deposited for a period as a requirement for granting this visa.
The amount may vary depending on the length of stay, no. of dependents traveling with the applicant etc. It could range from $3,500 to $ 15,000.
The Security deposit can be lodged by anyone – applicant, sponsor, relative or someone else.
The Security bond will be refunded once the visitor leaves Australia, so long as they complied with all conditions on their visa.
Period of Stay
This visa can be granted permitting a stay of upto 12 months.
However, unlike most tourist visa, this visa is valid only for one entry to Australia – it is not a multiple entry visa.
